Recording at Metropolis

"Winterfold’s Jazz Band recently made a recording at the world-famous Metropolis Studios in London.

This is the very studio where the Live Aid album was recorded back in the 1980s and, more recently, Adele 21, Urban Hymns, Back to Black and many other albums by top international artists.

The band, known as the Groove Diggers, is made up of children just 10 to 13 years of age from Winterfold House School in Chaddesley Corbett.

Director of Music at Winterfold, Jerry Price, said, “This was a fantastic opportunity for the children.  Just to visit the studios would have been an experience but to spend the day making a recording with two top engineers was brilliant.

“All the children wore headphones to record and hear the mix. The sound was incredible, especially from the drums, bass and vocals!”

The Groove Diggers were invited to the studios after reaching the finals of the National Youth Music Festival. They recorded five live tracks and the final mix will soon be available on Sound Cloud and CD." - Kidderminster Shuttle

National Competition Winners

"A school jazz band with an average age of 12 has reached the finals of the National Youth Music Festival.

'The Groove Diggers' are made up of pupils from Winterfold House School in Chaddesley Corbett and all the members are aged 13 and below.

The regional rounds of the festival were held in Shrewsbury in March and judges described the group’s performance as ‘simply spine-tingling’.

All the final acts have been selected from children up to 18 years of age from the entire country and the Groove Diggers will be performing at Birmingham Town Hall in July.

The band went onto win the National Partnership Jazz Award for the most promising jazz act in the whole competition. The prize was a trip to the Royal Albert Hall and an upcoming performance at the Symphony Hall." - Worcester News.
